Last Weeks Of Summer

As the last weeks of summer are disappearing before our eyes, Ollie has been spending more time transitioning into daycare. As a result, we are trying to make sure that the time that we have with him is action-packed.

We have been enjoying lots of playdates. Oliver and I are so happy that Gina and Luca have moved back from France and live practically down the road.

We couldn't pass up another visit to the beach. Since Oliver was sleeping when we arrived, we spent time lounging in the shade waiting for him to wake up so that we could swim - the water was 75 degrees!

Dan, Claire, Charlie, and baby on the way met us at the Frederick Meijer Garden Sculpture Park and showed us the cool Chihuly installations on display. We also scoped out the children's play area which is sure to be a hit with Ollie next summer. Charlie is already a big fan. It was so much fun watching him play in the fountain; Ollie wanted to go in too!

Standing Up, Kind Of

Oliver is about to turn 9 months old and a question that seems to constantly be popping up is whether or not he is crawling yet. The answer is no. He seems determined to skip right over crawling and just work on walking instead. He loves to take steps while someone holds his hands, and he works very hard to pull himself up on toys, legs, and (to my horror) the ledge of the bathtub. He has already done several face-plants as a result of this new obsession and is sporting a nasty bruise smack in the middle of his forehead! :(

LA Times

Oliver just experienced his biggest trip yet: a visit to L.A. to spend time with his Aunt Carolyn, meet his cousins, and hang out with friends.

He did really well on both airplane rides. In particular, he was fascinated watching the plane slowly descend and land. On both our outgoing and return flights we were seated next to very friendly neighbors who helped to entertain Oliver with games of peek-a-boo and silly faces.

We had many wonderful dining experiences including a few diners like Pann's. Ollie was able to enjoy some finger foods and sitting in high chairs - both newly acquired skills in his baby repertoire.

Ollie was very comfortable at Auntie C's (and who wouldn't be!): the swimming pool (he got to swim every day of the trip except the very last), the new toys, the parties, the new foods, the visitors, and above all, tons of love and attention!

Happy birthday, Aunt Hillary!
Carolyn opened up her home for a birthday/pool/BBQ party for Aunt Hillary. Aunt Allison, Uncle Doyl, Cousins Hunter & Xavier were all there. Plus, Tammi, her husband, Jason, and two kids, Sunny & Owen came out for the fun!

Aunt C. brought us to the L.A. Farmer's Market & The Grove. Ollie enjoyed the sights, sounds, and people watching. His chaperons enjoyed yummy food, lattes, and shopping!

At Aunt Allison's we were treated to fun play time bouncing on all the beds and sofas in the house, digging through all of the great toys, and swinging & sliding on the amazing play structure at their home. We took a walk to the Brentwood Country Mart for burgers and sweet potato fries, and I learned that once children become mobile, like Hunter and Xavier are, it is nearly impossible to catch a non-blurry photo - especially with multiple subjects!!! Out of about 50 attempted shots, 0 turned out perfectly in focus.

More swimming....

More eating.....
Tony and I were able to enjoy two real dates on this trip, thanks to Aunt Carolyn who was not only willing, but excited to babysit for Ollie. We went out for dinner with our friends Jason and Lori to a great Mexican restaurant. I tried tongue for the first time - it was very tasty! We also went to a movie all by ourselves (first time post Ollie), Inception.

More swimming....
After another fun pool day with Tammi, Sunny, and Owen, we were invited to go to the L.A. Zoo with the Suchecks. Since they are members and know the zoo inside out, we got the V.I.P. tour. Of course both mommies forgot cameras! Too bad since there were so many cute moments and fun times.

More eating....
On our last evening we met up with Allison, Doyl, Hunter, and Xavier again at CPK. This time Aunt Ashley and Debby were also in town. It was the first time that Oliver got to meet Ashley which made it extra special!
All in all, we had an amazing vacation. We were really spoiled by our friends and family.
