What's New in Ollieland:

So many new things are happening in Oliver's life! He recently graduated from the Infant Room to the Duckling Room at daycare. This means that he now eats at a table instead of in a high chair, he sleeps in a cot instead of a crib for his one nap, and all that extra awake time means a lot more activities. It seemed like it was going to be an easy transition at first. The first two days he was as happy as can be, but every day since he cries when we drop him off in the morning. This is so sad for us; even though we are told it is normal, we worry.

Ollie's toddler talents continue to emerge. He can eat many more foods thanks to his three new molars. He also is getting quite skilled in using utensils. We tried to capture a video, but the camera was enough of a novelty to distract him from his eating. Another amazing new development is that he actually tells us when he wants to go to bed by telling us "night, night" and walking into his bedroom and putting his arms out to be lifted into his crib. He doesn't do this for every nap and bedtime, but has been doing it about 30% of the time lately. We can't believe our luck!

As you can see from this picture, Oliver is growing some more hair finally!

Oliver's toddler personality is also emerging. He spends most of his time in a state of constant motion and discovery, getting into everything. If he can do it himself, he would prefer to. When I want to hold his hand while walking, for instance, he bats it away and tells me "no." We are going to have to consult some parenting sites about temper tantrums too. He really knows how to put on a show when he doesn't get his way. Yesterday at the zoo he flung himself onto the ground screaming when we wouldn't let him climb under the fence into the prairie dog enclosure. This being said, most of the time, he is a constant delight. He makes us laugh so hard and is astounding us every day demonstrating how much he knows and understands about the world already. We feel very lucky to have such a wonderful little boy.
